About John D Brown
John Brown is an experienced online solutions developer with over 9 years of experience. He has lead developers through envisioning, development, testing and deployment of various types of business intelligent intranet-, extranet- and internet-based applications and sites. He is creative and efficient with a focus on building reliable solutions that utilize proven, best of breed technologies.
While studing Business at
Texas A&M John worked with University Relations to build and maintain the A&M website and various other University Relations sites during the early growth stages of the web. This fueled his creative and technical interests and in 1998 he graduated from Texas A&M with degree in Business specializing in Management of Information Systems and began working for Dell on the Intranet Services team.
John developed many intranet sites and applications, honing his skills and techniques, as a leader on
Dell's Intranet Services team. He lead multiple web developer meetings of many dozens of developers on topics like ASP, XML, JavaScript, CSS, DHTML, Internet Explorer, Homesite, FrontPage, VSS, PhotoShop, usability and heuristics, database development, and many other web technologies and tools. John was the developer of Dell's usability and style guidelines for use on the Dell intranet in 1999 and was responsible for both the US and global Dell intranet websites.
In 1999 John joined
ChemCodes, a chemical compound synthesis startup in Durham, North Carolina. At ChemCodes John provided a solid intranet infrastructure for the startup to utilize document and content sharing as well as improve cross-functional team communication. As the company grew he created departmental intranet sites and many data collection, filtering, quality control and analysis applications. He also redesigned the corporate internet websites as business and industry focus shifted. John created and managed the corporate extranet including partner sites for securely communicating and collaborating with partners on projects. As with most small startup companies there were often times where he worked outside of his developer role; utilizing his hardware, software and network skills he helped find and solve various problems. He also assisted with many marketing tasks like designing and optimizing PowerPoint presentations, logos and business development documents.
In the summer of 2002 John left ChemCodes (then renamed
Nuada Pharmaceuticals) and began freelancing. He quickly formed close relationships with design firms in Austin, Texas and Raleigh, North Carolina and became a technology partner in website and online application development. Freelancing in both Austin and the Triangle area of North Carolina John was able to work with a variety of clients with many different goals and issues. The issues ranged from inhereting poorly written and unusable web-sites for redesign, building new ground-up sites, the development of multiple web applications, working closely with design and branding companies to implement web-sites per their design and more. Through close relationships with small design firms and clients John has been able to not only expand his technical skills but also provide business and consulting services.
In July 2004 John joined three of his prior colleages at
Oak9 Solutions as a partner and currently is the Director of
Online Solutions. Oak9 has grown to build more relationships and continued to foster the clients John has been working with since he was freelancing. Currently Oak9 employs their expertise helping companies optimize their business, technology and science foundations to solve problems and provide services efficiently and effectively. John's primary role is working closely with clients and design partners to apply creativity, functionality and efficiency to online solutions.
